Conclusions from the extraordinary session of the Assembly 
of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in BiH, 
held on 15 February 2002

 

  1. The Assembly positively estimated the former work of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in BiH, supporting in particular the conclusions of the steering board of the HC in BiH of 28 January 2002, at the session of which the created situation regarding the violation of human rights during the extradition of the «Algerian Group» was discussed. At the same time, the Assembly again fully supports the activities led by the competent governmental authorities in the struggle against the international terrorism, however, deems that it cannot be done to the detriment of human rights.
  2. The Assembly unanimously accepted the introductory speech delivered by the President of the Helsinki Committee in BiH, Srdjan Dizdarevic as its document.
  3. In respect of the discussion held at the session as well as of the need of more frequent dialogue within the Helsinki Committee on the most topical issues of its activities, the extraordinary session tasked the steering board to prepare and convene regular session of the Assembly of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in BiH by 1 May this year at the latest. For that session of the Assembly, proposals of changes and amendments to the present Statute of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in BiH should be given.
  4. The Assembly has tasked the steering board to prepare, as soon as possible, a special programme for observation of seven years work of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in BiH.
  5. The Assembly discussed Slavo Kukic’s letter relating to his withdrawal from the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in BiH. In respect to this letter, the Assembly with objection rejected the explanation stated by Mr. Kukic. The Assembly tasked the steering board to consider the issue of exclusion of Slavo Kukic from the Helsinki Committee, and suggested that further membership of Branko Todorovic in the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in BiH be considered.
