STATEMENT FOR PUBLIC
Pressures against Dnevni avaz
The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in
Bosnia and Herzegovina strongly condemns frequent
pressures being exerted recently over Dnevni
avaz. The last incursion of the officers in
charge of auditing fiscal obligations of this
newspaper house, who entered the premises of Dnevni
avaz accompanied with uniformed policemen of
the Federation Ministry of Internal Affairs, is a
gesture without precedent and represents a crude
attack over the freedom of media.
The relationship of the authorities towards
freedom of speech and expression, on the example
of Dnevni avaz, is in contradiction to the
valid internationally recognised norms and leaves
Bosnia and Herzegovina behind the European
integration.
We appeal on the political governmental
authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to give up
from applying the methods used by undemocratic
and authoritarian regime in our direct
neighbourhood and demand that they create such
environment in which undisturbed work of means of
information can be ensured as necessary
precondition for building of democracy and
respect for human rights.
