STATEMENT
FOR PUBLIC
ISSUED BY THE STEERING BOARD OF
THE HELSINKI COMMITTEE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN BIH
-
The
Steering Board of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights
in BiH, at its session held on 28 January 2002, supported
with the majority votes the work of the Helsinki Committee
until now.
The estimate of the Steering Board was that the Helsinki
Committee has been fully working in compliance with its
programme orientation, European Convention on the
Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, as a
part of the International Helsinki Federation for Human
Rights.

The
Steering Board stated that the Helsinki Committee, despite
pressures it was exposed to recently, is determined to
urge for full respect for human rights in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, for reaffirmation of the role of the
institutions in charge of protection of human rights,
particularly of courts, police, civil administration and
institutions for protection of human rights.

The
Steering Board with the majority votes supported the
standpoints expressed by the President of the Helsinki
Committee in BiH in the case of «Algerian Group» and
considers them as the views of the Helsinki Committee. The
Steering Board does not put in question the rights and
freedom of every member of the HC in BiH to express
different views and opinion.

The
Steering Board has, on the proposal of 30 members of the
Helsinki Committeee, and on the basis of the Article 8 of
the Statute of the HC in BiH, passed a decision to convene
the extraordinary Assembly of the HC in BiH on the 15th of
February 2002.
