My Local Community and My Rights

Aims of the Project:

  • Educating the citizens – renowned individuals and representatives of non-governmental organizations in the standards in the field of human rights

  • Educating the Commissions for human rights within the municipal councils, Advisors to the Mayors and representatives of political caucus

Target groups of the projects:

Citizens – renowned individuals, representatives of non-governmental organisations, members of the municipal commissions, advisors to the mayors, mayors and representatives of political caucus of local communities.

Expected results:

Following the education, exchange of experience and mutual exchange of information on the degree of implementation of international standards in the field of human rights, the participants of the seminar will undertake the obligation to be more active in their communities related to protection and enjoyment of human rights of citizens, and objective improvement of the state of human rights.

Objectives of the project:

  • To analyse the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement in the passed ten years, as well as the relationship of the authorities and civil society toward its implementation;

  • To light up the role of international community as a guarantor of implementation of the Peace Agreement;

  • To analyse the relationship between the Dayton Peace Agreement and the European Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms and other international conventions determined as such in the Dayton Peace Agreement, giving special emphasise to the practices and strategies in Bosnia and Herzegovina;

  • To show the possibilities of real implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement in BiH, in the existing constitutional framework.

Targeted groups of the project:

  • Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina;

  • Activists in the field of human rights;

  • Non-governmental sector;

  • The authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina;

  • International organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina;

  • International community.

Expected results of the project:

After making the analyses of the state of human rights and freedoms, guaranteed under the Dayton Peace Agreement and legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and organising the conference, we are to expect to obtain responses and assessment of achievements in the practice of protection of the human rights and freedoms in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a crucial element in making assessment of the democratic processes in the BiH society. In addition, the analysis will enable us to get to know what the future steps are in the process of BiH approaching the Euro-Atlantic integrations.

What should Bosnia and Herzegovina do in
the field of human rights in order to meet
the criteria of the EU?

The goals of the project:

  • Experiences and practices of the surrounding countries – Slovenia and Croatia;

  • Strategies and practices of BiH governmental bodies in meeting the undertaken obligations;

  • Acquainting the citizens from local communities with all the tasks of Bosnia and Herzegovina for meeting criteria under the Agreement on Stabiilisation and Accession.

Targeted groups:

  • Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina;

  • Activists in the field of human rights;

  • Non-governmental sector;

  • Governmental bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ombudsmen;

  • International organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina;

  • International community.

Expected results of the project:

  • That all political, legislative, executive and social protagonists in Bosnia and Herzegovina take more active and unique attitude in meeting the requirements and criteria in the proceses relating to the Agreement on Stabilisation and Accession to the European Union, and to undertake the obligations towards citizen  and protection of the citizen's rights and freedoms in line with the European standards in this field;

  • The citizens in local environments will also be informed of all requirements and criteria related to the integration in order to become aware of the ways and manners of affirmation of their human rights and freedoms and to take part in the processes;

  • Through debates at the round tables, citizens and their organisations should be mobilised, enabling them to take more active role in protection of human rights and freedoms, and thus objectively to improve the situation in the field of human rights.
